Tutoring Experience

I am an Ex-MOE teacher with about 26 years of experience. The schools I have taught in include: Damai Primary School, Woodgrove Primary School and Yishun Primary School. I have a great deal of experience in teaching English in both the lower and upper primary levels. For the last 15 years of my teaching career, I  specialised in teaching English to Upper Primary pupils.  My passion for teaching the English Language has motivated me to take up several courses organised by the Ministry of Education and other organisations like the British Council and the English Language Institute of Singapore (ELIS). I have scored As and Bs for all the English courses I have pursued during my training to be a teacher and during my teaching career When I was teaching, I was part of the English Language committee in my schools and have been responsible for spearheading and carrying out projects that help to enhance pupils’ interest and performance in the subject. As a member of the English Committee, I was also responsible for the setting and vetting of examination papers and also sharing ideas on the teaching of English with my level teachers. I have also been a mentor for about six trainee teachers from NIE.

I have a decade of experience tutoring primary school pupils in English, on a one to one basis. After leaving MOE, I am now pursuing full-time tutoring. With my expertise as an Ex-MOE trained teacher, I am well-versed with the current English curriculum and exam formats.  I have a deep understanding of the psyche of children and can interact with them with ease. Hence, I am able to adapt my teaching styles to meet the learning needs of my tutee. Another plus point is that I have access to a vast variety of resources and I am able to prepare suitable materials that that will enhance my tutee’s ability to excel in the subject. My main success in teaching English is that, through my creative teaching techniques, I am able to enthuse pupils to further their own interest in the language and consequently they are able to make vast improvements in their academic performance in the subject. I am willing to follow up on my tutee from the Lower Primary level to Primary Six.
